Chapter Five: Diet and Avoiding Pitfalls
S
hortcuts are everywhere in life and they are becoming increasingly easy to find. The unfortunate reality is that the result has become exponentially more important than the journey. We want the finish line and when opportunities arise that promise us that sooner than othersâor even just sooner than our previous timeâit is incredibly tempting to jump at that chance.
We previously discussed both honesty and accountability with yourself and, as with your workouts themselves, we built upon previous knowledge to enhance the current task. Without the tools youâve either discovered or honed, this moment will provide much more difficulty than necessary. Some of these âeasy ways to winâ are built on the assumption that you are not dedicated to the journey and would rather get to the end. This may have been the case in the past, but I know you are committed to your workout path and not just the desire to skip ahead! You have bettered yourself and it is going to pay off!
I have always been a firm believer in education for every single situation. The more you know, the more ready you are when that part of life occurs. With this in mind, it is also important that you educate yourself on the kinds of shortcuts that could be temptations along the way.
Rather than tiptoe around an issue, Iâve always believed that meeting it directly is a much more effective choice. At no point in this journey should chemical alterations be brought into the mix! While for many this seems fairly obvious, there are times when a quick fix is enticing. The commercializing and ease of availability creates many problems when dealing with steroids and hormone treatments.
Despite the well-known downsides and potentially deadly side-effects of using these methods, the injuries, deaths, and various handicaps still happen because that end result takes up the entire view. The bottom line is straight-forward and should be adhered to: never use either!
During this process, as weâve said before, you may decide to include a diet as well. While we do not provide one, finding a diet to fit the changes you are looking for is an excellent addition to your journey. That, and two other foundational variables will help you not only get the most out of this program, but form habits that will last!
Rest
The importance of rest cannot be overstated! In our fast-paced lifestyle, there is barely a moment to take three deep breaths, let alone get as much sleep as we need. You know the facts and youâve known them for most of your life: 7-8 hours of sleep! The first thoughts you just had were most likely a list of reasons why that amount of sleep is rarely possible, if ever! That is a viable and real reasonâlife does not stop when you begin a program or make a change. Just like we made sure the importance of proper scheduling was stated, it is just as vital that you see proper sleep as an absolute as well.
